Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati - Transfer to Shillong (100 km / 3 hours)

Arrive at Guwahati Airport/Railway Station and drive to Shillong, the "Scotland of the East." The capital of Meghalaya sits at 1,496 meters and offers pleasant weather year-round.

Highlights:

  • Scenic drive to Shillong through pine forests
  • Stop at Umiam Lake (Barapani) for photos
  • Check-in at Shillong hotel
  • Evening walk at Police Bazaar

Day 2: Shillong to Cherrapunjee (55 km / 2 hours)

Drive to Cherrapunjee (now Sohra), famous as one of the wettest places on Earth. Explore breathtaking waterfalls and viewpoints.

Day 3: Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek

The highlight of your Meghalaya journey! Trek to the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge in Nongriat village. This natural wonder is created by the Khasi tribe over centuries.

Trek Details:

  • Trek distance: 7 km round trip (3,500+ steps)
  • Duration: 5-6 hours (with breaks and swimming)
  • Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
  • Natural swimming pool near the bridge
  • Rainbow Falls (if energy permits)

What to Expect:

  • Marvel at the 150+ year old living root bridge
  • Cool natural pools perfect for swimming
  • Pristine forest trails and streams

Trek Tips: Start early (7-8 AM). Wear good trekking shoes. Carry water, snacks, swimwear, and change of clothes. Steps can be slippery when wet.

Day 4: Cherrapunjee to Dawki (85 km / 3 hours)

Drive to Dawki, a small border town famous for the Umngot River - one of the clearest rivers in the world. The river is so transparent that boats appear to float on air!

  • Umngot River boat ride - crystal clear turquoise water
  • View of India-Bangladesh border bridge
  • Cliff jumping for adventure enthusiasts (optional)
  • Photography paradise with transparent waters
  • Local market at Indo-Bangladesh border

Best Time: Visit in winter (Nov-Feb) for the clearest waters. Post-monsoon waters may be less transparent but equally beautiful.

Overnight: Dawki/Shnongpdeng Riverside Camp or return to Shillong

Day 5: Dawki to Shillong (85 km / 3 hours) - City Sightseeing

Return to Shillong and explore the city's attractions. Known as the "Rock Capital of India," Shillong has a unique blend of natural beauty and urban culture.

Highlights:

  • Elephant Falls - three-tiered waterfall
  • Shillong Peak - highest point (1,965m) for panoramic views
  • Ward's Lake - beautiful garden with boating
  • Don Bosco Museum - Northeast culture & heritage

Day 6: Shillong to Guwahati & Departure
